Who Is a Good Lip Augmentation Candidate?

The ideal lip augmentation candidate is a woman who is healthy, non-smoker, in good nutritional state with some shape to her lips and desires enlargement and enhancement. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Temporary Augmentation | Injectables

These days there are a variety of fillers that can be injected in the lips for the optimal enhancement. The filler that is most commonly used, are products that are called “Hyaluronic Acids” which is a natural carbohydrate compound found through out our body.

Injection of fillers can provide an increase in lips size or can be used to correct irregular or unbalanced looking lips. Lips do typically appear fuller on one side than the other, or have vertical lines from smoking or chronic use of straws.

Besides hyaluronic acids, fat grafting can also be used to enhance the lips naturally and augment the Cupid’s bow or minimize the vertical lines. Fat is usually harvested from a location in which excess unwanted fat is present such as the belly or flanks.

During fat transfer, only the body’s natural tissue is used, so rejection or allergic reaction rarely occurs. After the procedure, patients are left with soft, natural-feeling results.

Most of our clients are able to resume majority of their daily activities including work within a day when filler is used.  When fat is transferred is transferred few more days of recovery are needed depending on the amount of fat and number of areas fat was removed from.

After Lip Injections

Typically there is no pain with injections.  The minor discomfort that may be present is managed by applying an ice pack.  However there is a small chance for minor bruising at the injection site or along portion of the lip.  This should resolve in 2-3 days.

After Implant Surgery

Implant surgery may produce slightly more discomfort, swelling and bruising.  The swelling and bruising typically resolve within few days.

Risk & Complications with Implant Surgery

Complications connected with the surgical procedure are rare: however there are inherent risks connected with every surgical procedure.  These include:

Permanent Lip Augmentation

Lip implants provide permanent enhancement and augmentation providing a good option for individuals with thin lips or may not desire repeating injections over time. There are different types of lip implants available. These include:

Alloderm® – The most soft and supple of all the lip implants, Alloderm is donor tissue purified and treated to remove viable cells.

Lip implants are inserted into the lips by making small incisions at the corners of the mouth. A thin tunnel is made in each lip to accommodate the implant. Then, the implant is thread through the lip and the incision sites are closed using absorbable sutures.
