Labia minora (inner vaginal lips) reduction (or labioplasty, labiaplasty, labial reduction) is a surgical procedure that alters the labia minora (inner labia) and the labia majora (outer labia), the folds of skin surrounding the human vulva. There are two main types of women that seek cosmetic genital surgery: first group are those that are not satisfied with the appearance of their genitals because of shape, size or asymmetry. Second group are those that experience pain, discomfort with certain activities such as sports, horse back riding, bike riding, wearing tight clothes and even intercourse due to presence of excess skin.

The shape, size and color of labia vary significantly, and may change as a result of childbirth, aging, piercing and even sports excessive rubbing. Typically the two sides are not the same size and one is usually larger than the other. A lot of women are unhappy with the appearance of their labia. They often state that their are ‘too long’ or ‘too irregular’ or just ‘too ugly’.

But complaints about the inner labia (the labia minora) have become more common in recent years mostly influenced by increase in viewing of porn. A large number of women have seen pictures of female genitals in movies, magazine photos and on the Internet. Another reason for increased awareness and why more women are conscious of their vulvas is the popularity of shaving and waxing. This has in turn increased visibility of labia not only to women but their partners as well.
